1. Being bilingual slows down the aging process

A study published by the University of Edinburgh has revealed that the brains of bilingual people age more slowly and therefore live longer and more satisfying lives.

2. Being bilingual makes you smarter

A study published in 2012 in an online neuroscience journal explains that being bilingual makes you a better student because it helps you process information better and has a positive impact on your attention.

3. Being bilingual makes you more competitive in the labor sector

Being able to speak a second language helps your resume stand out from other professionals who only speak one language. Also, many companies of this era have international offices and sell their products or services around the world. This indicates that these companies are interested in hiring employees who can speak more than one language and know other types of cultures.

4. Being bilingual allows you to have better experiences when traveling

Your travel experience will be much more authentic if you know the language of the country you are going to visit, even if you do not master the language perfectly.

You can haggle, order the food correctly and understand the directions that the natives give you if you get lost.

Also, if you are bilingual you can tackle longer conversations, instead of sticking with superficial conversations. The travel experience will be much more enriching if you know the language of the country you are visiting well.

5. Being bilingual helps you avoid distractions

One of the keys to being a better student is avoiding distractions.

Today we need to develop specific skills on connectivity conflicts. It becomes more and more difficult to stay focused if we are surrounded by a large number of distractions such as mobiles, music and advertising, which struggle for our attention.

According to another study carried out in 2011, bilingual children develop skills to better manage conflicts. Why?

Simply because they must quickly select the language to use when they hear words or phrases.

This ability has positive effects on the plasticity of their brain and helps them to cope better in conflict situations in which there are many stimuli that attract their attention.
